The Missing Rider

In the big wooden barn, I woke up to the delightful smell of fresh hay and grain.
As I stood up, I saw the beautiful sunrise with the sun looking like it had erupted from
the earth with a stunning pink and orange sky. Patch, the paint pony and my best friend
said, “Onyie you’re finally up, grain was served an hour ago.” I rushed to eat my food.
It’s Friday fun day and my Little is coming to ride me. I was still waiting for my little when
Mr. Bret started turning Patch and the other horses out.
Immediately when Patch was turned out, I started to panic. I started whinnying
and pawing at the gate. It sounded like metal thrashing. Before I knew it Mr. Bret came
back and turned me out. I tried to tell him that I have a lesson, but he did not understand
what I was saying. I bulged my eyes, I pinned my ears, and I wouldn’t move. Eventually
I gave up. Worried in the back pasture, I talked to Patch. “Patch you have to help me,
my Little is not here and we have a lesson.”
Meanwhile, Patch acted like nothing strange was happening, and she said
“Onyie do you even know what day it is, hint it’s a very special day.” I cried, “Even more
special than me?” I trotted off to my favorite place under the trees to think. The smell of
fresh cut grass and pine comforted me but not as much as my little does. I started
thinking of every scenario of what could have happened to my Little. Was she dead,
was she sick, was she kidnapped, did she forget about me, did she sell me, did she
sleep in? I started to hear horses behind me, I spun around so fast that I almost hit my
head on a tree. It was Oops the quarter horse and Leo the Mustang. They asked,
“What’s wrong with you Onyie? You’re all by yourself and you’re pacing around like a
maniac.” I felt overwhelmed. “My Little is not here and we had a lesson. I think she’s
dead or I’m sold. I don’t really know.” Leo and Oops tried to calm me down.
About to give up, I took a deep breath and smelled a delicious smell of carrots
and cake. Before I knew it, Little and Mr. Bret rounded the corner from the barn and
started to bring in the horses. When they turned me loose in the arena, I saw big pink
balloons, all my friends, carrot cake, and MY LITTLE. I realized that Little was not
missing. She planned a surprise party for my birthday. I felt joyful and super excited.
Let’s just say, I gave a lot of happy boops that day.
